A near-lifelong resident of Washington State, I grew up outside of Olympia from age two.

I attended Griffin Elementary school, Jefferson Jr. High School, and Olympia High school, graduating in 1973.

After graduation I joined the US Navy to ‘see the world’, and spent the next 6 years in service. Leaving the Navy in 1979, I moved to Australia temporarily and worked as a bricklayer while touring the country.

I returned to Seattle, & was hired as a field computer service engineer for NCR Corp. while attending North Seattle Community College as an engineering pre-major. While at NSCC I served as president of the Alpine Club, and was then elected president of the student body for the year 1983.

Transferring to the University of Washington, I completed my degree program in 1986 and was hired by the Seattle Architecture firm NBBJ.

I joined Metro in 1987 to work on the Seattle Bus-tunnel Project, and within 6 years I was managing the $55 million renovation of the West Point Treatment Plant. I have remained with Metro for the last 22 years, the past 15 of which I have managed transit construction projects exclusively.

Since 1983 I have served in the US Navy Reserve, retiring in 2007 with the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer after 30 years service.  My greatest honor was to lead Inshore Boat Unit Eleven during the initial months of the Iraq War, and bring all of my sailors home safely.

I have lived in Lake Forest Park since 1996 with my wife and son.

I also coached 4 very fulfilling years with Richmond Junior Football.
